This site is designed for faculty and staff in higher education to learn about creating accessible online content. The first section, Understanding Accessibility, will give an overview of what accessibility is, the laws and standards supporting it, and reasons why we should design for accessibility. We'll talk about the ways people with different abilities navigate an online environment, their needs and barriers they encounter. In the second section on Word, you'll learn how to apply accessibility features to Microsoft Word documents. In the third section, on Blackboard Learn 9.1, you'll learn how to add accessibility features within this learning management system, using the content editor. In the fourth section, on Media, we'll discuss the importance of captioning and transcribing media files, and explain methods for doing this. In the fifth section, on Checking Accessibility, we explain ways in which you can check web content for accessibility.
